Belgium is located in Central Europe, northeast of France and west of Germany. It was invaded by Germany in WWII, but since then has been on an economic upturn. Its population is approximately 10.3 million. The Belgian flag was adopted in 1831. Its colors are those of the coat of arms of the Duke of Brabant. The war for independence started and enjoyed its most staunch support in Brabant, and thus the arms of the Duke became the national coat of arms.
