Description
Delaware was the first of the original thirteen colonies. The flag shown here was adopted in 1913. The arms in the center were adopted in 1777, and their main motif indicates the prevalence of agriculture in Delaware’s economy. Delaware was the first state to sign the Declaration of Independence, and the date on which it did so is written across the bottom. The yellow diamond recalls the state’s nickname of the Diamond State.
