3×5′ Outdoor Virginia Flag
Virginia was one of the original thirteen colonies. The flag shown here was adopted in 1861. The man prostrate on his back represents Tyranny, and the woman dressed as an Amazon is Virtus, the symbol of the Commonwealth. This picture shows the triumph of liberty over a tyrant, which reflects the motto, Sic Semper Tyrannis (“thus always to tyrants”).
