3×5′ Outdoor Flag for the State of Vermont
Vermont was added to the Union in 1791, the 14th state to join. The flag shown here was adopted in 1923. The seal contains a typical landscape; the pine tree is a symbol of New England in general, and the cow and wheat symbolize agriculture. Two pine sprigs were worn by soldiers at the Battle of Platsburgh in 1814; the pine branches flanking the arms represent this victory.
